Lipomas are surprisingly common. Many people develop at least one in their lifetime. with some people developing many.
They can occur on almost
any part of the body and whilst they are benign, they may cause problems related to
pain, pressure or cosmesis.
Traditional treatments involve surgical removal which results in a significant scar and possibly a depression. Today they may be treated with
liposuction or even injection of
Phosphatidylcholine. Liposuction results only in tiny scars, and injection leave no scar. Injection of PPC reduces the amount of fat gradually, so a number of treatments
are often required, particularly for larger lipomas.
