Fillers
What are fillers and what are they used for?
Dermal or subdermal fillers are substances which can be injected into
or under the skin for a variety of effects.
Lips
As
we age, lips tend to thin, and the injection of even small volumes will create a fuller effect. Filler may be
injected to improve definition or to increase fullness, or both. Filler is injected into the body of the lips to create fullness. Injection along the vermillion border (border between red lip and skin above and below the lip) will improve definition.
Lines
Many
lines around the face area will improve with injection of fillers
directly under the line, but often further treatment is necessary in
order to strengthen the structural supports of the skin around the line.
A muscle relaxant injection may be beneficial in terms of further line prevention and also to improve longevity of the filler.
Lines especially around the mouth are often injected - nasolabial lines, the marionettes and the chin crease.
Cheek Bones
Enhancing the cheek bone with fillers will lift the cheek fat pad and reduce the sag over the nasolabial fold.

The tear trough is very successfully injected and has the effect of making the face look less tired.
What fillers are used at Body Contour?
There
are four aspects of any product that should be considered before a filler product is chosen.
They are:
Benefit - will it achieve what you want?
Safety - what are the possible complications?
Longevity -
How long will it last? This is important not only so you know how
long before you are likely to need another treatment, but also, because
if you have problems- how long will they last?
Cost - varies widely
We use a variety of fillers as well as your own fat.
All fillers used at Body Contour are non animal products which
mean that the likelihood of allergy is exceedingly rare and pretesting
is unnecessary.
What is involved in treatment with commercial fillers?
For the injection of lines or wrinkles, treatment involves some
discomfort, and an anaesthetic cream may be applied an hour beforehand.
With regards to the treatment of the lips, local anaesthetic injection
is often required to numb the area.
The procedure generally takes around 30 minutes with the effect
usually lasting between 3 months to a year but is extremely variable.
Due to variations in the individual response and the degree of fullness
desired, the effect is often assessed at 3 to 4 weeks post treatment.
Further injection may be undergone at this stage.
What are their side effects?
Side effects include
- local swelling,
- redness and some
- bruising
- pain
This procedure is not recommended for:
- Pregnant or breast feeding women.
- Patients who have Roaccutane in the last 3 months.
- Those with a medical history of auto-immune type diseases or multiple allergies.
Fat transplant or transfer
Where
fat is to be used, it is initially harvested from another body site -
often the tummy, bottom , hips or thigh. It is specially prepared and
then injected into the area to be treated.
The advantage of using
fat is that it is a natural product, and if successful will last longer
than any of the commercial fillers. It is mainly used in the cheek
area or anywhere there is a loss of fat due to age or disease.
Costs:
Costs vary widely depending on the filler used. Minimum fees are $560 plus GST
